Travel with Confidence

Helping more people travel with confidence to Cambridge South and the Cambridge Biomedical Campus

Cam Valley Community Rail Partnership is working with local communities and partner organisations to develop a Travel with Confidence project linked to the opening of Cambridge South station.

The project aims to support people who may face barriers to independent travel, helping them feel more confident using public transport to access healthcare, education, employment and other opportunities at the Cambridge Biomedical Campus.

We know that travelling somewhere new can be challenging. This may be due to disability, a long-term health condition, anxiety about travelling, unfamiliarity with the rail network, or difficulties navigating large and complex destinations. Through this project, we want to better understand these experiences and identify practical ways to make journeys easier.

How you can get involved

We are looking for people with lived experience of travel barriers to help shape the project.

You do not need any specialist knowledge. We would particularly like to hear from:

  • Disabled people
  • People with long-term health conditions
  • Neurodivergent people
  • People with sensory impairments
  • Carers
  • Older people
  • Anyone who experiences anxiety or a lack of confidence when travelling independently
  • People who travel, or may wish to travel, to the Cambridge Biomedical Campus

Participants may be invited to:

  • Share their experiences of travelling by public transport
  • Help identify barriers to travel
  • Provide feedback on routes and wayfinding
  • Test journeys to and from Cambridge South station
  • Help shape travel information and resources for future users

Why this matters

Cambridge South station provides an important new gateway to the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, one of the UK’s leading centres for healthcare, research, education and employment.

By working directly with the people who use these services, we hope to develop practical, user-led resources that will help more people travel independently and with confidence.

Get Involved

We are currently looking for individuals, community groups and organisations who would like to contribute to the project.
