Charming informal garden in converted farmyard, featuring diverse planting, secluded enclosures and historic setting in the village centre.
Docwra’s Manor Garden is a unique one‑hectare garden created within and around a former farmyard in the village of Shepreth. Developed from the 1950s onwards by botanist John Raven, the garden has evolved organically into a series of interconnected spaces, separated by hedges, walls and historic buildings, each with its own distinct character and planting style.
Rather than following a rigid design, the garden embraces a relaxed, informal approach, with abundant planting spilling through courtyards, lawns and semi‑wild areas. Visitors can explore a rich variety of plant combinations and horticultural ideas, from Mediterranean species to traditional cottage garden favourites, all set against the backdrop of a historic manor house with origins stretching back several centuries.
The garden is open Wednesday and Friday all year 10am to 4pm, and the first Sunday of the month all year – 2pm to 4pm.
