Wondering about our Wonderful Wonderpass?

This beloved space, the joint product of so many people of all ages, community groups, ideas and artistic talent, continues to delight passers-by on the walk or cycle ride between Meldreth Station and Melbourn village.
However, as you may have noticed, while the murals are generally in good shape, some painted sections have decided to release themselves from the surface and are bubbling up and peeling off. Underneath the new mural is the old one, so the original idea of living walls is certainly that.
Over the past couple of summers our small team has tried to remediate the peeling as best we can, but we’ve had to confront the fact that the artwork will continue to deteriorate. This has been upsetting, but we know that the energy and spirit which brought the Wonderpass into being remains and can be mobilized again. So, we are assembling as much expertise as we can to understand what is causing the peeling, and how to plan for a successful replacement. We’ve had some initial feedback from two different specialist organisations and are in the process of seeking a third opinion. This won’t be a quick process, but we will keep you posted. Over the colder and darker months of the year, please help us to keep an eye on the Wonderpass and feel free to get in touch with any thoughts or ideas.
